Two Weeks and Counting

It is almost time for our first trip. Things have changed a bit since my last post but the destinations are basically the same.

We will be leaving Redlands on Tuesday, June 7th. After dropping Lucy (our Boston Terrier) off in Vegas with our future daughter-in-law, we will head to Denver via the 70. We will spend three or four days in Denver and then travel to Green River, Wyoming to visit Steph's mom, probably stopping along the way in Cheyenne and Laramie. After a night in Green River, we are heading to Salt Lake City for several days. We are planning to spend some time tracing our ancestry and are especially exciting about seeing the Olympic Cauldron since Sheldon was a torchbearer for the Salt Lake City Olympic Games! After SLC it's back to Vegas for Father's Day and my birthday before returning home. We will spend a total of two weeks away from home.

So, now that you know our itinerary, where should we go...what should we see...who should we meet? It's all up to you and we want to hear from you. We're not afraid to go off the beaten path and will be happy to follow your recommendations.

We have another trip coming up in July - through Nevada, up into Oregon (all the way to Astoria). It's going to be a great summer of travel with lots of photography and blogging. But we need your help every step of the way.

We've Planned Our First Trip!

Our first trip looks like it is going to be lots of fun and cover lots of miles (if we can afford to pay the gasoline prices!!!). We are leaving Redlands, California on or about June 2nd and will return on June 21st. The places we are definitely going to visit include Boulder and Denver, Colorado, Green River, Wyoming, Salt Lake City, Utah and Las Vegas Nevada. We are tentatively planning on going out the 40 from Barstow but our route is open to change.

Now it's your turn. We have three weeks and only a couple of "definites." Why should we get off the freeway and visit your town??? Do you want us to see the best trinket store in the whole United States, the best museum, the coolest zoo? What about food? Are there regional favorites that shouldn't be missed or maybe a waiter or waitress that gives fantastic service? Parks? Shopping? Factory Tours? Wacky and outlandish things that can only be found where you live? PLEASE let us know so we can begin to plan our trip. I promise to update every day during our journey and will post pictures of all the places we visit.

I can't wait to hear your suggestions and look forward to a fantastic inaugural trip.

What It's All About

We love to get in the car and travel. We haven't seen much of the United States but we are planning to take more driving trips over the next few years. We're not sure where we're going but we know that we want to do more than just visit the "hotspots." We want to meet new people and visit small towns and cities that might be overlooked if we just followed the guidebooks.

We want YOU to tell us where to go. We want YOU to give us a reason to get off the interstate and visit your hometown. Is there a unique store that we shouldn't miss? Does your town host an unusual festival or weekly market night? Is there a wonderful museum or gallery or home that shouldn't be overlooked? Does a local chef make the best dish in the world? Then let us know. We will let you know where and when we plan to go and hope that you will tell us what to do on our journey. And we will be writing and posting pictures of all the places we visit and the wonderful people we are sure to meet. Sounds like fun? We think so and we hope that you will join us on our adventures.

We're looking for your help in one more area. Is someone in your town feeding people who would otherwise go hungry? We're not talking about organizations - we want individuals or small groups. If so, please let us know about them. We are looking to start a food program in our hometown and would love to talk to others who have been successful with this.
